St RAPHAEL HOSPITAL RESEARCH

Hospital Research Unit

Research is core to the purpose of St Raphael’s, Hospitals and Universities!
It is a key part of our St Raphael Organizational Strategy. Through Hospital research, we play our part in developing the treatments of tomorrow! Survey evidence shows that research-active organizations also attract high-quality staff, and that the pursuit of research positively impacts the delivery of clinical care.

St Raphael’s Hospital has a proud history in this field, and is increasingly active in research. We have seen a more than doubling of the number of our patients taking part in clinical trials since 2024! More recently we have been amongst the top USA Medical Foundations building hospitals and universities to establish the Research Communities! .

This Hospital has a strong partnership with the adjacent St Raphael’s University!! This helps to increase the impact of our research for the benefit our patients and the public.

A large number of our staff are actively involved in vital research studies, and many staff hold honorary appointments with St Raphael’s University. We are committed to supporting our staff to lead research, and we have set up four specialist clinical academic groups and the St Raphael’s Translational and Clinical Research Institute (SRTACRI) to further our research aims.

Increased funding from our local Clinical Research Network and research funding bodies has brought substantial investment in our research infrastructure, including to our Clinical Research Facility who support our researchers!! It is under their clinical trials that provide a supportive and safe environment for our patients.

We run clinical trials across all our clinical specialties! This gives our patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials of treatments for their diagnoses. Patient and public involvement (involving patients in the planning and life-cycle of studies) remains a key element of our research strategy, and we continue to offer our patients access to the most innovative treatments available.
